Why do I think that Herod & Margaret were married in Greene County?
Residence:
Interestingly, Herod bridges is just one page away from Lewis Deshazo. And John Tomlinson, clearly a relative of Mary Tomlinson Wren, is the captain.

Herod Bridges is in the same district as William K Deshazo. Mom's family and Dad's family are neighbors in 1820.
Possessions:
Herod Bridges paid 2 polls, had 105 acres of 2nd quality land in Putnam County on Rocky Creek and 202 1/2 acres of pine land in Houston County in the 14th district, lot number 91. The Houston county land looks like it could be a land lottery lot.
Possessions:
Witnessed by G.W. Wren

Residence:
Herod Bridges is taxed for 5 polls, 300 acres 3rd class land along Rocky Creek. Total Due $1.93 3/4
5 polls indicates that he must have 4 slaves.
Possessions:
This appears to be a case where Herod Bridges sold land to McCarroll Penifoy and then bought it back from the estate of Mc. Penifoy's father William the same day. Perhaps it was a land exchange with the estate - like for like. The descriptions of the property are similar and along the same waterway.
Possessions:
This appears to be the 2nd half of a land exchange.
Residence:
Herod Bridges is taxed for 8 polls, 300 acres 3rd class land along Rocky Creek. Tax due: $2.15 3/4
8 polls indicates that he owned 7 slaves

Notes for Sarah Bridges
NOTE: The following two letters were written by Sarah Bridges Wren when she was in her nineties. The first was written in 1903 to Georgia Vickers Wren the wife of Sarah's son Dr. Alonzo George Wren. The envelope is missing but she writes... To Georgia Wren. Dear Daughter I send you this little history of my life which I have hastely writen,it is short and meager but I don't suppose that anyone would be interested in much that I could tell although I have seen a good deal of this world. with love I remain your mother Sarah Wren. Page 1. I was born in Green County GA the 17th of April 1813. went into Morgan Co where we lived until I was 6 years old, when I was carried to Putnam Co where I grew to womanhood. Was converted and joined the Methodist church in July 1828 was married the 7th Sept the same year to G. W. Wren of South Carolina. We settled in GA where we remained until 1850 when we removed to Louisiana in Jan 1851 where Mr. Wren died in Augt 29th 1884 and where 5 of our 8 children have died. I was Gloriously sanctified at the Rock Springs camp meeting in Putnam Co, GA in 1849 which bless the good Lord I still claim and hold on to____has always been very merciful and good to me and has given special answers to prayer. My blessed Lord has watched over me now for 90 years & 6 months and nere denied me one blessing that was best for me to have..he has given me good friends everywhere I go, and never permitted any serious harm to befall me. I feel that his abiding care has always been with me and in me to help and comfort me and now in my old age and infirmities he has not forsaken me, but gives me abiding witness of his Holy spirit to comfort and sustain me Glory to his name NOTE: The original letter is owned by Scott Dickson, Roswell, GA. The letter passed to him on the death of Norvelle Wren, Sept 1996,Prescott, AR. Scott was Norvelle's gt-nephew and Norvelle was gt-grandaughter of Sarah B. Wren.
The second letter....on envelope Mrs. Atticus Wren, Slaughter,Louisiana...post mark...Uvalde, Tex. Jun 24, 3pm, 1910. 1. Uvalde,Texas, Mrs. Agnes Wren dear grand daughter. I have been wanting to write to you for a long time but have put it off from time to time to feel well enough but I believe I get further from it instead of better and the truth is I am ashamed for anyone to see my writing because I can't read it myself after writing it. All the family think me better at least they talk that way, but I know my own feelings lest I and am not able to get around much have to be helped in and out at doors when I get out and when I..2..and when I ride which I seldom do I have tobe helped in and out of the carriage. all the family except Cecile Myers and myself are gone to plase on the river to give Mattie D. Orndorff and the children a outting while they are here. they have been here since the 9th of this month. Seth did not come with them but sent them with one of their neighbors who coming this way. you would be astonished to see how large Mattie D has grown and fine looking her children are. the oldest one is a little girl named Ruth Allis the boy's large named for this father....3...Seth Beauford Orndorff. Seth is still working and trading and going ahead. I don't know where he will end but he is a stiring man sure roling. Wren has his new house done we are in it comfortably fixed up with lots of ground chickens to eat but Mattie fell down directly we moved here from getting one foot hung in some wire which was both ends buried inthe ground and loose in the middle she was hurt so bad that she has not been able in 3 months but she is a little better now...4..she suffered a sore mouth for a good while..could not do anything to hardly keep up but all is a little better now though not well. Mattie D thinks she will stay only one month if that some of the family will go home with her to help her with the children. I am broke down and must close. I hope you will write soon and give me all the news. I am nearly blind but still scratch a little to my loved ones. I close with many kisses to Atticus and the children from your grandmother Sarah Wren. The original copy of this letter was in the possession of Inez Wren Dupris, daughter of Atticus Wren. It is now owned by Wren Dupris, Port Arthur, TX. Wren is gt-grandson of GLP Wren.

From Findagrave:
In the Bicentennial Minutes, Mrs. Idalene Donegan reflects that early education probably began as early as 1842 with the arrival of Methodist Minister Reverend David Evans Thompson and his enterprising wife, Elizabeth Ann.
In 1845, Reverend Thompson had started a school and taught in Seguin's first schoolhouse on the northeastern corner of Nolte and Milam Streets. It was a three room adobe building which, by 1890, "succumbed to the elements." By 1849, Reverend Thompson, with the first trustees of the Methodist Church - Ezekiel Smith, Joshua Young, Wilson Randle, Thomas D. James, Thomas H. Duggan, James C. Watkins, and Charles A. Smith, built the first church at the northwestern corner of Austin and Market (Nolte) Streets. It was built with lumber shipped from Indianola, a three week trip. Today, one of the first church buildings in Seguin is located on the corner of south Camp and Washington Streets. It is a private residence.
Elizabeth Ann can only be described as a leader among women. She not only stood by her husband's side rather than behind him, she led the way during his absences. She was a member of the first graduation class of the Georgia Female College, later Wesleyan College, and the first woman teacher in Seguin. While her husband served in the Civil War, she literally ran the family plantation with the help of slaves. Cotton was planted and shipped to Mexico. She operated a cloth factory spinning cloth for the Confederacy as well.
From "Under the Live Oak Tree, A History of Seguin" by E. John Gesick, Jr.Elizabeth married Rev. David Evans Thompson on 8 Aug 1843 in Jefferson, Georgia, United States. David was born on 15 Aug 1813 in Clarke, Georgia, United States; died on 29 Jul 1892 in Seguin, Guadalupe, Texas, United States; was buried in Seguin, Guadalupe, Texas, United States. Notes:
This person is a mystery. He is rarely mentioned, but is found enough to have really existed. Betty Wren's theory is that he was handicapped or retarded. That's why he died relatively young and they used his name again. Even though A.D. Wren was living during the same time.
The record I find of this person, though, is the marker in the Wren cemetery, erected much later than this person's life. I suspect that there is a general confusion of this person and Alexander H.S. Wren or another child.
I really believe that A.D. Wren was named for William Alonzo Dossey, but never went by William and just dropped it. I do not believe that W.A.D. Wren is a different person than A.D. Wren.25. Looks like Dr. Wren filed for a Confederate Pension in Arkansas in 1915 and Georgia Wren applied as a widow in 1916.
Birth:
Tooke History records his birth as 15 Feb 1846.
Census:
In this census, it appears that there is an Augustus Wren, age 16, as well as a William A.D. Wren. Looks like W.A.D. Wren is him, but not sure who Augustus is. Perhaps, the confusion on the A.D. Wren later is really around this "Augustus".
Military:
Dr. A.D. Wren applied for a pension on 19 Aug 1915 (along with John W. Hudson and John W. Gann). Veteran # 24686. Georgia Wren applied for a widow's pension on 18 Jan 1916. It seems unlikely that she received her pension, not being indigent.
Residence:
Deed from James J Vickers Jr notes that A D Wren was a resident of Bienville when he purchased the land. This must have been the precursor for his move into Arkansas and the genesis of his old homeplace.

Almost every state exchange we pick up contains one or more notices of this character which we clip from the Prescott Picayune. They are unmistakable evidences that the Democrat is the people's paper: "Dr. A.D. Wren. a practical farmer, and one of the most prominent physicians in Albany Township, favored us with a call Thursday, and left the cash for the Picayune and the Arkansas Weekly Democrat.",

Another Fire
Prescott, October 28 -
The barn of Dr. A.D. Wren, a prominent citizen of Albany Township living eight or ten miles south of Prescott, was burned yesterday together with all his corn (500 bushels) and between 4,000 and 5,000 bundles of fodder.
The fire is believed to have been incendiary in origin. The Doctor and all his family were in Prescott except his son Willard who went to the neighboring Postoffice after dinner leaving no one at home. There was no insurance.
Dr. Wren lives near the edge of the cyclone district that had all its crop prospect destroyed last spring and he was very active at that time in efforts to relieve the sufferers. He is a foremost citizen, a prominent Democrat, and wields an influence in his neighborhood.
Respectfully, E.R.A.

A lot of Wren family notes say he died as an infant. However, Find a Grave shows a tombstone with a death date of 1867. Can't see a good image of it to tell one way or another. In either case, he died relatively young and had no family.
