    Notes:

Susan is sometimes seen as Susannah as well.

Some have suggested she was from Greene Co., Tennessee, but in the 1860 census, her birthplace is reported as N. Carolina. However, at the time of her birth, Green County, Tennessee was actually part of North Carolina, Tennessee not having been yet established.

    Notes:

Mary is a bit of a mystery. She does not appear with George in the census in 1850, 1860, or 1870. FindaGrave says she died in 1880, not 1864. But, in 1860 and 1870, George is alone in the family of Mary's siblings. Did she die very early, earlier than believed? Did she run off? Was she in the mental hospital? Or what?

But in the 1840 census, there are young children and a woman aged 20-30 in the household. I suspect this is her.

    Birth:
The 1840 census shows a woman aged 20-30 in the home. If she is about 30, this could well be Mary.

Mary married George Washington Rigney on 2 Aug 1827 in Knox, Tennessee, United States. George was born about 1800; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

Some accounts say he was born in Greene Co., TN, others in Knox Co.TN.

PARENTS: could have been from TN or AL

Census says he was from TN, Sarah Council's death certificate says he was from Alabama.

It appears that Uriah died fairly early, leaving a wife with children. They then moved with his parents on to Arkansas. Based on the fact that Uriah's father is in Knox Co. in 1811, I might expect to find his birth there, or in Roane County where his parents were married.

DEED: Uriah Allison Council (U.A. Council) bought land in Roane Co.,Tennessee. Deed is in Book G, p. 47.

Based on the childrens' ages, it looks like they moved from Tennessee to Alabama between 1835 & 1837. Sarah Louise was born in AL, but her older sisters were born in TN.

    Birth:
Findagrave says he was born in Knox Co., Tennessee. I tend to believe this since his family lived in Knox at this point. Some the old books say Greene, but that has to be wrong.

    Notes:

Though John's children point toward a move to Arkansas around 1842, there are no deeds available for the period from 1839-1849

Interestingly, in the deeds in Book C, there are three deeds where J.M & Lima Council sold land. But the deeds were recorded in Fannin County, Texas. FamilySearch records for Fannin County have to be viewed at an affiliate library.

    Possessions:

    1 slave female 24-35
    total 4 in the household

    Residence:
Based on the dates and places of birth of the children in the 1850 census, we can deduce that they moved to Arkansas after William was born, but before Susan, so between 1841-1843.

    Census:
appears in the Slave Schedule with 1 male, mulatto slave, aged 20

    Census:
Also listed in the house in 1860 is Henry Rigney, age 3. It seems likely that Henry is the grandson (or maybe even son) of George Rigney and Mary Council.

    Census:
Henry Rigney is still living in the household in the 1870 census.

Interestingly, John M. Council has $9000 real estate in 1870 and $1500 personal estate. That's a lot for reconstruction Arkansas.

    Notes:

So far, she has been elusive in the 1910 census.

    Census:
In 1900, Anna is in West Glenwood, Colorado, working as a servant in the home of Mary E Blowers, a widow.

Anna is listed as 30 years old and single. She is listed as a servant in the home and a waiter by trade. It kind of looks like Mrs. Blowers had a rooming house and Anna worked there. There are 4 lodgers and 2 servants listed, in addition to the Blowers family.

    Census:
Anna is listed as widowed. The only reason we know she was in Raton is because Hume Jr. used her as a contact on a job application.

Anna is working as a clerk in a hotel. Perhaps she is out here to be near Carl.

    Census:
Anna is living in an Auto Court, alone, and is a real estate sales person. She very much lied about her age, claiming to be 47.

    Notes:

1880 census calls him Hugh F. Bailey.

I have a fact that says he died 1 Jul 1930, but no source at all. I am going to remove this until I can find where I found it.

    Residence:
From the back of a photo of Hume.
    H.F. Bailey
    Salida, Colo
    1902

    Occupation:
Hume F. Bailey is a new machinist in the back shops. He went to work Monday morning.

    Occupation:
Hume F. Bailey, machinist, drew his time last Tuesday.

    Occupation:
Started working for Northern Pacific RR as a machinist.

    Occupation:
Worked as a machinist with Northern Pacific.

In his work application, he says he was born 12 Aug 1882 (should be 12 Aug 1879). He says he was born in Salida, Colorado. He says his parents are not living. He also says his sistern Anna Bailey Coulter is living in Raton, New Mexico

    Occupation:
Note say he was allowed to resign. Looks like he applied with a false age, false parents, false birthplace, and said he had never worked for the Northern Pacific before. Of course, they checked and he had.

    Military:
Interestingly, Hume did not sign his draft card. He only made his X and it was witnessed by the registrar. He was an educated man, though. This must have been an act of resistance.

    Occupation:
