  He was an early physician in the Coffee county area. During the Civil War, he served as a private in Co. H, 11th TN Cavalry. He was enlisted 1 Oct 1862 at Manchester, TN by Capt. Coffee and was paid$24.40 for the use of his horse. In the 1870, he and his family were enumerated in the 6th district of Coffee County, TN (Manchester).
