2303 | granddad John (Jack) A. Jones was the second husband of Martha A. Taylor Dickson. After the death of John H. Dickson, Martha remarried. The family story is that Jack Jones never allowed discussion of the first husband, the father of Martha's children. As such, they never got along with him and left home early. According to the marriage records of Crawford Co, AR, a Jack Jones, age 21, married Caroline Baker, age 20, on 24 Apr 1878. This could have been the first marriage of this Jack Jones, but I think not. the ages do not correspond very well at all to those reported in the census. They would work, however, with the age of Zena Jones, the daughter of Jack Jones. Perhaps the ages on the marriage license are in error. A second marriage record is found in Crawford Co. on 11 Jan 1890 for John A. Jones and Mrs. Sue Dickson. This appears to be the record for his marriage to the widow of John H. Dickson. However the name is in error. A notation in the margin of the record says that this record was mailed to Jack Jones in Rudy, Crawford Co., AR on 5 Sep 1896. The Jones family definitely lived in the small town of Rudy. Married granddad's grandmother after grandfather died. Never allowed discussion of first husband. | Jones, Jack A. (I3994)

Mr. Lee, a long-term resident of New Orleans, was born and lived in Mississippi through high school. He is survived by Eugenia Humphreys Lee his beloved wife of 67 years, sons Griff C. Lee III of Potomac, MD and Robert H. Lee of Monterey, TN, daughter Carol Lee Coiron, son-in-law John J. Coiron of Winston-Salem, NC and grandson Eric Lee Desforges of Roanoke, VA. He was a member of St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church and the New Orleans Country Club, and a former member of The Bienville Club, the Rotary Club of New Orleans, the Pendennis Club, the World Trade Center, the Petroleum Club, the Plimsoll Club and City Energy Club as well as the Azalea Club. His entire professional career has been devoted almost entirely to the development and design of fixed offshore structures. In the industry, he was known as the father of the fixed platform. In 1955, working with another engineer, he is credited with inventing the skirt pile foundation system for offshore platforms and the first use of the launching technique for installation of platform jackets. Both concepts have been used on almost all deep-water offshore platforms that have been installed since that time. In 1983 he formed Griff C. Lee Inc. and worked as a consultant in private practice, retiring in 2007. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Offshore Industry, in 1997 he was named by the Offshore Technology Conference as one of four individuals to receive the Offshore Heritage Award. In 1998 he was one of the first fifteen to be inducted into the Offshore Energy Center Hall of Fame as an Industry Pioneer. During his professional career he received several honors including being named as Louisiana's first engineer to be elected to the National Academy of Engineering and the first to be named by the American Society of Civil Engineers as a Distinguished Member. He was named as Outstanding Engineering Alumnus by Rice University in 1990-1991. He was inducted into both the Tulane School of Engineering and the Rice University Hall of Fame and in 2006 he received the award for "Distinguished Service to the College of Engineering" by the University of New Orleans. 2328 | H.W. Tennison was known as Walker. According to his great-granddaughter, he was the first of the line to be known as Walker, with a Walker in each succeeding generation. The reason he was named this was to remember the walk on the Trail of Tears. Supposedly, his mother was part Indian and she selected the name to remember her heritage. According to a clipping from the Antlers American newspaper dated 11 Jun 1914, "H.W. Tennison died last Saturday morning. Burial was Sunday afternoon at Antlers Cemetery by WOW Lodge." However, his tombstone gives a date of 6 Jun 1914 instead of 4 Jun. Some sources list his birth as 7 March, others as 9 March. Likewise, some sources list the marriage as 12 Nov, others as 18 Nov. | Tennison, Henry Walker (I5914)
