    Notes:

I am unable to locate Alexander A. Vincent in the Tennessee 1850 Census.

Originally, I had recorded Alex' uncle Alex A. Vincent as the guardian of Adolphus and Peyton. But he died before the guardianship ended and there was no mention of a change in guardian. It makes more sense to have the older brother be the guardian in any case.

Many researchers have confused the Alex A born in 1792 with this Alex A, born around 1813. This A.A. Vincent married Rhoda A. E. Lynch. The 1792 A.A. married

    Residence:
Alexander is taxed for 1 poll, so he is at least 18 years old.

    Census:
Alex is recorded as having 4 slaves
    1 M age 45
    1 F age 45
    1 F age 7
    1 F age 6

    Died:
In the 1880 tax roll for Travis County, Mrs. R A Vincent is assessed rather than Alexander. That would mean that he has died, presumably. Or else he has abandoned her after 50 years of marriage. I would side with the former rather than the latter.

Alexander married Rhoda A. E. Lynch on 5 May 1847 in Roane, Tennessee, United States. Rhoda was born in 1828 in Tennessee, United States; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  Rhoda A. E. Lynch was born in 1828 in Tennessee, United States; and died.

    • Misc: 1888, Travis, Texas, United States; county tax assessment
    • Misc: 1889, Travis, Texas, United States; county tax assessment

    Notes:

I suspect that Rhoda died in 1890 or shortly after that. Starting in 1893, her son was always listed on the county tax assessment. So either she was dead or she was no longer the owner and was very old.

    Census:
There is an E E Linch, age 20, male in this house. Looks like Rhoda's brother.

    Misc:
Mrs. R.A. Vincent is assessed for taxes. This likely means that Alexander has died.

Her assessment, in District 1 & 2, Travis County is for 1 acre, Abstract 58, Originally granted to C. Barker, and is worth $300. She is assessed for 1 horse, 7 cows, for a total value of $375 and a total town and county tax of $3.75.

    Children:
    1. 1. Elizabeth E. Vincent was born about 1857 in Tennessee, United States; and died.
    2. John L. Vincent was born about 1859 in Tennessee, United States; and died.

Generation: 3

  1. 4.  Henry Vincent was born on 16 Jun 1781 in Granville, North Carolina, United States (son of Alexander Vincent and Saffira Champion); died before 5 Oct 1841 in Rutherford, Tennessee, United States.

    Notes:

We need to prove that in fact Henry Vincent, son of Alexander Vincent, was the Henry who married Rachel Caits and fathered Adolphus. Based on the dates, it is possible that Henry, son of Henry, was the husband of Rachel Caits.

Henry Vinson witnessed the inventory for Joshua Cates, dec'd on 22 Dec 1838 in Rutherford Co., Tenn. Among the articles included in the inventory were 4 negroes and one note for $81.50 on Henry Vinson due 25 Dec 1838. Total for the inventory was $28676.25. The inventory was signed by John Cates and Henry Vinson.
