    30. John (John, John, John, William ), born at Bridgewater, Sept. 6, 1747; married first, June 5, 1777, Hannah, daughter of Joseph and Jane (Keith) Cowing, born May 22, 1747, died Sept. 2, 1782. He married second (published at Oakham, Nov. 25, 1790), Ruth, daughter of Zebedee and Sarah (Northey) Delano, born at Pembroke, April 6, 1755, died in 1835; she was widow of Ebenezer Whitman when married to Mr. Hooper, and had been living at Oakham. He was a soldier in Capt. Abram Washburn's company of Col. Eliphalet Gary's regiment on the expedition to Rhode Island, served from July 30 to Aug. 9, 1780. He resided at Bridgewater till after his second marriage; returned later and died at Bridgewater, March 26, 1809.

    There is a note in Scituate of Sarah Cowen, d. Israel, dec'd Jan 5 1718. This is clearly not her, but could be a previous sister. It looks like there are several generations of Israel Cowen / Cowing's, maybe with daughters Sarah in Scituate. I wonder if they might be Jewish.

    Findagrave says Joseph was the son of Israel Cowen, which may be true. There is a birth record for Israel's son in 1715 in Scituate. There is a baptism record for him in 1719 and lists him as child of Hannah, widow. So, were Israel & Hannah married, and when did he die?
