    • Census: 4 Aug 1860, Leake, Mississippi, United States
    • Census: 16 Aug 1870, Desoto, Mississippi, United States

    Notes:

Of the children listed on the 1870 Census, I suspect that the younger 4 are children of Mary E. Dixon Williams. The dates just don't jive otherwise. Likewise, Lucy Vaugh listed there would likely be the mother of Elisa.

In the 1850 AL census, David Dixon had a son John who matches in age to my John H. Dickson. In 1860 in Leake Co., MS, we find him again with John 22 years old. Mary E Dickson, sister of John, moved to Tate Co, MS, to Coldwater after the war with four children and a brother William. Her husband, Lorenzo Dow Williams, was killed in a battle at Franklin, TN. All of this according to her g-grandson, Eric Williams.

NOTE: Uncertain, but looks likely. Might be descended from the Dicksons of Dickson County, TN, probably through Michael Dickson.

In Marengo Co., there are a lot of Dicksons already there in 1830. Likely connected - Joel, Samuel, N.F., Watson, Thomas.

In Desoto / Tate county, there are a large number of Dicksons who do not appear to be connected. The History of Tate County has a submitted history of a lot of them.

    Census:
Is this really the right David Dickson? Why would he start out in Tennessee, go pretty far south into Alabama, quickly come back to Tennessee, and then head back to Alabama and on to Mississippi? I am no longer really convinced that this is him.

    Census:
Interestingly, there is a Dixon's Mills in Marengo County.

Wikipedia - Beginning in the late 1820s, Joel B. Dixon, Sr. operated a water-powered gristmill at a dam that he and his sons built on Mill Creek along the old Linden-to-Choctaw Corner Road. The modern U.S. Route 43 bridge over Mill Creek now stands at the location. Dixon (January 11, 1777 – December 23, 1861), a native of Edgecombe County, North Carolina, was one of the early settlers of Marengo County. His business grew and eventually included a steam engine-driven sawmill and two steam-powered cotton gins. The mills remained in use into the first years of the 20th century. They were still standing in 1923, when they were demolished during the construction of Route 43.

    Died:
I originally had a death date of 1885, maybe from Eric Williams. But in 1880, Eliza is listed as a widow.

David married Eliza W. Johnson on 29 Jan 1835 in Marengo, Alabama, United States. Eliza was born in 1812 in Virginia, United States; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

There is an E.W. Dickson listed in the 1880 census, Coldwater, Tate Co., Mississippi, listed as Mother in Law of J.F. Pardue and wife L.A. Pardue. David & Eliza have a daughter Lucy Ann.

The next house down is Bob Blackburn. There is a will for a John Dixon in 1900 that lists Bob Blackburn as his father in law. I am not sure who this John Dickson is, unless he is the John Dickson that I have called mine.
