    From Cathy Myers Mattix: The family story says that after John (JD)'s death, Carrie left her children with her parents to go to New York to attend college. She later taught in women's schools, including college, throughout Mississippi and Louisiana, as far as can be determined, as well as in schools in the Indian Territories.. She lived into her 90s as did both her children. The family moved to Uvalde with her parents and sister, Mattie Dee. Mattie Dee and her husband, Seth Orndorff later moved to El Paso and Carrie and her father followed.
