    Notes:

    There are a number of letters to a Hume F. Hill of Memphis, Tennessee in the family papers. I believe this is an uncle of Hume F. Bailey, and his namesake.

    Hume appears to have married in New York and had a daughter, Augusta, there (or a step-daughter). He is a Justice of the Peace in Memphis by 1850. He also appears in the 1860 Memphis Census.

    In the 1860 census, he is 50 years old rather than 48.
