      Randals District

    Notes:

Juliar is probably really Julia. By 1860, she does not appear in the census, but new daughters appear who was born in 1853 and 1855. My suspicion is that Juliar probably died after 1855 and before 1860.

    Birth:
    Findagrave says 1818

    Notes:

In searching for James Armour, I find that there are a large number of Armour families, including a James that could fit this record, in Hall County, Georgia in 1840. This seems a place to look further.

A number of family trees on Ancestry include James M. Armour. They show his first wife to be Effie Emily Sewell and that he was from Hall County, Georgia. This is definitely an area to look for the family. How did he end up in the area where Milly Allen was?

Other sources show that James Armer was born in Jackson County. The mystery marriage to Effie Sewell is found in South Carolina, so I am skeptical that this is at all correct.

    Died:
Millie is found in the home of J.S. and Charlotta Pool in the 1860 Census of Paulding County, Georgia without James. The 1860 Census does not record marital status, but it appears that she is alone. Her daughter is also not there with her. Where is she in 1860? Is she with James, separate from Millie? Is James dead and she is with someone else? In any case, Millie marries Robert Gann in 1865, so that means James is out of the picture by then anyway, apparently dead, most likely dead by 1860.

James married Millie Allen before 1848. Millie was born about 1821 in Georgia, United States; died on 15 Feb 1893 in Paulding, Georgia, United States; was buried in Paulding, Georgia, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  4. 11.  Millie Allen was born about 1821 in Georgia, United States; died on 15 Feb 1893 in Paulding, Georgia, United States; was buried in Paulding, Georgia, United States.

    • Census: 23 Jun 1880, Dallas, Paulding, Georgia, United States; Address:

    Notes:

According to her daughter's 1910 census enumeration, she was born in Alabama. However the other census records all record her as from Georgia.

Perhaps a way to track her down is to find families in 1840 in Cobb or Paulding County, Georgia that she could fit into that are near to Smith families where Thomas would fit.

    N5

Backtracking with Millie Allen, we know the following:
Burial - 1893, Paulding County, Georgia
Death - 1893, Paulding County, Georgia
Residence - 1860-1893, Paulding County, Georgia
    Marriage 3 - 1865, Paulding County, Georgia
Residence - 1850, Cherokee Co, Alabama
Marriage 2 - before 1848 birth of her child, probably AL
    Birth of Rhoda - 1844 - AL
Marriage 1 - before 1843 birth of her child, GA or AL
Birth - about 1821, probably GA

So, as a hypothesis, Millie was born in GA around 1821. She married Thomas Smith around 1843 in Georgia. I suspect that they moved to Alabama, probably Cherokee County area. He died shortly afterward, probably without a will since he was likely very young and without property. Though having a daughter, there may have been a guardian appointed. But again, without property, perhaps not. Millie likely remarried fairly quickly, being young and with a child, to James Armer. He was a little older and had lost his wife and had young children to raise who needed a mother. He died after only a few years as well. Somehow, she ended up moving back to Paulding County, Georgia. What was the attraction back to Paulding and how did she end up there? Did she come alone?

Possibly, Millie and her family moved to Alabama and she married Thomas there, since Rhoda always reports that her father was from Alabama.

    Census:
Milly Armer is enumerated in 1860 in the home of J.S. and Charlotta Pool, along with Thomas Lacky. Milly is listed as 34 years old.

Charlotta is 52 and J.S. Pool (or Bool) is 68. Perhaps Charlotta / Charlotte is a sister to Milly. This is not a very common name but it crops up in this family quite a lot.

J.S. Pool is enumerated next door to E.W. Pool, age 33 (probably a son).

    Census:
In the 1870 census, Millie is recorded as Melia and as age 42.

    Census:
In the 1880 census, Milly reports that both her parents were born in Georgia. She also only reports herself to be 53 years old.

Looks like Dr. Wren filed for a Confederate Pension in Arkansas in 1915 and Georgia Wren applied as a widow in 1916.

    Birth:
Tooke History records his birth as 15 Feb 1846.

    Census:
In this census, it appears that there is an Augustus Wren, age 16, as well as a William A.D. Wren. Looks like W.A.D. Wren is him, but not sure who Augustus is. Perhaps, the confusion on the A.D. Wren later is really around this "Augustus".

    Military:
Dr. A.D. Wren applied for a pension on 19 Aug 1915 (along with John W. Hudson and John W. Gann). Veteran # 24686. Georgia Wren applied for a widow's pension on 18 Jan 1916. It seems unlikely that she received her pension, not being indigent.

    Residence:
Deed from James J Vickers Jr notes that A D Wren was a resident of Bienville when he purchased the land. This must have been the precursor for his move into Arkansas and the genesis of his old homeplace.

    Another Fire
    Prescott, October 28 -
The barn of Dr. A.D. Wren, a prominent citizen of Albany Township living eight or ten miles south of Prescott, was burned yesterday together with all his corn (500 bushels) and between 4,000 and 5,000 bundles of fodder.

The fire is believed to have been incendiary in origin. The Doctor and all his family were in Prescott except his son Willard who went to the neighboring Postoffice after dinner leaving no one at home. There was no insurance.

Dr. Wren lives near the edge of the cyclone district that had all its crop prospect destroyed last spring and he was very active at that time in efforts to relieve the sufferers. He is a foremost citizen, a prominent Democrat, and wields an influence in his neighborhood.

    Respectfully, E.R.A.

As a part of a newspaper add for Comfort Powder - The Modern Nursery and Toilet Powder in the Atlanta Constitution, Dr. A.D. Wren of Sutton, Arkansas is quoted. "Comfort Powder is all that is claimed for it. There is nothing better for new born babies, chafing, baby eczema, sore nipples, etc. I consider it harmless to the most delicate skin."
