    Notes:

There are two competing theories as to the parents of Louis Deshazo. The first is that he is the son of Peter Deshazo, b. abt 1730 in King & Queen Co., Virginia, and Rebecca Pendleton. This line is hesitantly proposed by Aubrey S. Jennings and Nancy Deshazo Jennings as well as General Tom Deshazo. The second theory, set out by Zuber, is that Louis is the son of Robert Deshazo and Mary Trevallian. Robert is said to be the son of a Nathaniel (Nathan?) and the grandson of Peter, the immigrant. I would generally support the second theory over the first, but hope we can find better documentation of it.

TODO: Clean up and provide sources for both possible lines of descent. See Zuber doc, B. Yamagami's web site at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Valley/3220/ and Jennings book

Presumably, Louis and his family were in Putnam County, Georgia by 1806. Likewise, it is to be expected that the King family moved with the Deshazo family from Virginia since there were a number of King marriages in Putnam.

He is most frequently seen as Lewis Deshazo rather than Louis Deshazo.

In the early Putnam county records, there are a number of marriages for Deshazo women around 1815 - Luraney, Nancy

Probate records are available on Family Search in file 67D in the Putnam Co., Estate Records file. But, images are broken when downloaded. See link https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-993Y-96KC?i=639&cc=1999178&cat=294892

William H. Deshazo and William King are administrators of his estate. I suspect William King is Nancy's brother.

    Birth:
This birth date seems awfully late to have children starting in 1796. I might expect something more like 1770.

    Census:
    Lewis Deschaser - 1-0-3-0-0
    Robert Deshazer - 4-1-1-2-4

    Possessions:
Lewis Deshazo sold to Peter Dennis for $300, fractional district #192, 129 acres.

    Possessions:
Purchased 1/2 of lot 63, District 14, Putnam County, formerly Baldwin from William Spencer, 101 1/4 acres. Deed recorded 29 Sept 1810

    Residence:
1813 Tax List - Capt. Whitaker's district - Lewis Deshazo listed individually and as agent for Amelia C. Baker. Benjamin King also appears in this district.

    Misc:
7 polls, 101 1/4 ac 3rd quality land, in Putnam Co., on Cedar Creek, originally granted to Lowery, adjoins Childs. Tax $2, 31 1/4c.

Then as agent for William Deshazer, 1 poll, 31 1/4c

    Will:
In his will, Lewis says that the three sons, Larkin, Lewis, and Peter be sent to school for a year. Wilkins gets a horse and saddle. William gets a horse and cash. The two daughters, Nancy and Sourany(?) each get a bed. Land and slaves are all to be sold (but not separated or scattered) and divided between the children.

Nancy, his wife, is never mentioned.

    Misc:
Will be sold on the second Thursday in April next, at the last residence of Lewis Deshazo, deceased, in the county of Putnam, on the waters of Cedar Creek, adjoining Cary Cox and others, a part of the estate of said deceased; to wit: horses, hogs, cattle, sheep, corn and fodder (signed) William H Deshazo, William King, administrators - Georgia Journal, Milledgeville.

William King is likely one of Nancy King's relatives.

Lewis married Nancy King. Nancy died before 1818. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 5.  Nancy King died before 1818.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • _AMTID: 162485318046:1030:191555462
    • _UID: 302C0CB4B456443AA6DB4DE22D3DF8E49AD8

    Notes:

Who are Nancy's parents? In 1812, there is a Benjamin King living next to Lewis and her in Putnam County. He shows no poll tax, so he must be over 60 years old. Perhaps he is her father. Also, why would she name her first son William King Deshazo? For her father or a brother perhaps?
