    Notes:

    n4, mg2,

Came to Tennessee in 1808. Settled in Wilson Co., TN.

Married in Georgia, came to Falling Creek, TN after marriage. (This is somewhat suspect to me. I am not certain that he actually married in Georgia. There's no reason for this to have happened, as far as I can tell.)

Had 7 sons & 5 daughters by Sally Miller.

    Could have been named Joseph.

    Died of Cholera.

There is some confusion about Joseph and Thomas CASON and their spouses.

Could have been born about 1776 in NC or SC.

    Misc:
Taken up by Joseph Cason, one black mare, 3 years old past, 13 hand high, both hind feet white, large blaze in her face, no brands perceivable, appraised at 8 dollars, June 12th

The minutes of the Quarterly court hold tax lists for 1803-1807. Joseph Cason does not appear in any of these. So, we can assume that he arrived sometime after the tax roll for 1807 was created and before when he took up the lost mare in June 1810.

    Possessions:
    Land Entry 9742.
Warrant 1340, originally issued to Walter Clopton, Jun. 23 1/2 acres on the waters of Falling Creek, adjoining Joseph Cason's south east border.
    Survey 13 Jun 1814

    Residence:
If there was a letter waiting in 1813, this gives proof that Joseph Cason was living in Wilson County by then.

    Census:
    Enumeration: 0011011-0102001, 8 slaves, 16 people

    Misc:
As a consequence of a judgment against George Smith, Joseph Cason had an execution order issued to force sale of a piece of property.

    Misc:
Land was sold and debt settled.

    Probate:
Annual return and settlement of estate

    Buried:
BURIED: Probably in the John A. Cason burying ground, Wilson Co., TN

Joseph married Rebecca Miller before 1799 in Georgia, United States. Rebecca (daughter of John Miller and Mary Anderson) was born about 1773 in Georgia, United States; died in Sep 1835 in Simmons Bluff, Wilson, Tennessee, United States; was buried in Sep 1835 in Simmons Bluff, Wilson, Tennessee, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  Rebecca Miller was born about 1773 in Georgia, United States (daughter of John Miller and Mary Anderson); died in Sep 1835 in Simmons Bluff, Wilson, Tennessee, United States; was buried in Sep 1835 in Simmons Bluff, Wilson, Tennessee, United States.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • _AMTID: 162485318602:1030:191555462
    • _UID: 25E5A6A8C1C94E958DB17B27ADC794F6A35A
    • Misc: 3 Nov 1815, Laurens, South Carolina, United States; accounting of father's estate

    Notes:

Sally and Rebecca Miller are sisters. Both married Casons. One married Joseph Cason and one married John Cason. Both are married to Casons at the time of their father's death in 1814 and the administration of his estate. They seem to often be confused. The recorded documents clearly show that Sally married John and Rebecca married Joseph.

Died of cholera during the epidemic of 1835 in Wilson Co. TN.

Why do we think she was born and / or married in Georgia? Her parents were born, married, and died in South Carolina, Laurens County, mostly.

    Birth:
I do not believe that Rebecca was born in Georgia. It appears that her family was in Laurens Co before and after her birth. It also makes little sense that they would go from Georgia back to South Carolina.

    Misc:
Account of what she has received from the estate during her father's lifetime.
    Sally Cason - $572.00

    Children:
    1. Rebecca J. Cason was born in Wilson, Tennessee, United States; died in Alabama, United States.
    2. James Cason was born in Jul 1799; and died.
    3. Jeremiah Cason was born on 19 Sep 1800 in Abbeville, South Carolina, United States; died on 22 Jul 1866 in Simmons Bluff, Wilson, Tennessee, United States; was buried in Simmons Bluff, Wilson, Tennessee, United States.
    4. Mary Margaret Cason was born on 13 Jul 1801 in South Carolina, United States; died on 28 Apr 1893 in Wilson, Tennessee, United States; was buried in Wilson, Tennessee, United States.
    5. 1. William Cason was born on 23 Sep 1804 in South Carolina, United States; died in 1892 in Henderson, Chester, Tennessee, United States; was buried in Henderson, Chester, Tennessee, United States.
    6. Sarah Cason was born about 1808 in South Carolina, United States; died in Missouri, United States.
    7. John A. Cason was born on 15 Mar 1812 in Wilson, Tennessee, United States; died on 19 Jan 1889 in Simmons Bluff, Wilson, Tennessee, United States; was buried in Simmons Bluff, Wilson, Tennessee, United States.

    • Possessions: 24 Oct 1783, Craven, South Carolina, United States; purchased land from David Huggans
    • Misc: 21 Jan 1787, Ninety Six District, South Carolina, United States; witnesses a deed from George Weir to William Cason

    Notes:

Landed at Fredericksburg, VA before the Revolutionary War. Settled near there. Fought in the Revolution for the entire war. Had 4 sons and 5 daughters.

Figuring out where Thomas Cason and other Laurens Casons lived and who they were is important to move forward and backward. In 1800, there appear to be several Casons: Thomas, Giles, Elizabeth, John, and Benjamin.

There appears to be a William and a William Jr. William Jr is married to Mary. Thomas witnesses deed for William Jr. I suspect that they are brothers and that William Sr (not yet seen) is likely their father.

    Possessions:
This deed says that both parties and the land are in Craven County, but it also talks about land on the Saluda River, which is in Ninety Six District and Laurens County.

Craven is an extinct county and was eliminated when the seven original judicial districts were created.

    Misc:
Thomas Cason witnesses a deed from George Weir to William Cason, Jr. I suspect that William and Thomas are brothers and that their father may be William (since William is Jr)

In a later will, William Cason, Jr witnesses a deed to William Cason.

Thomas married Sarah. Sarah and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    • Probate: 7 Feb 1814, Laurens, South Carolina, United States

    Notes:

    DAR-PATRIOT: Sol, SC

Served in the Revolutionary War in the Quartermaster.

John Miller served eighty days, from 9 January to 8 July, 1779 under Capt. John A. Sumners and Col. Waters.

Birth order of his children matches the list in the estate papers, which probably listed them from oldest to youngest.

There is a note in the estate about a charge against the estate for assessing land in Edgefield. It appears that John Miller may have had land in that county as well at the time of his death.

There is a will from Hanse Miller in Will Book A that bequeaths property to John Miller. Is this his father?

    Possessions:
William here is William Cason, Jr. His wife is Mary. Joshua Teague witnesses the transaction.

    Possessions:
William Cason is certainly connected to Thomas Cason, John Cason, Giles Cason, and therefore, Joseph Cason.

    Possessions:
This land is a part of a grant to Zebulon Mathis, John Miller's son-in-law.

    Probate:
Probate opened on his estate. Son, George Miller, administrator

    Died:
The death date has also been recorded as 2 Feb 1819, but the estate papers clearly say 1814.

John married Mary Anderson before 22 Jun 1768 in South Carolina, United States. Mary (daughter of James Anderson) died before Oct 1807. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
