    Notes:

So far, we have not yet found a death date for Sarah. She does not appear in the Massachusetts 1920 or 1930 census. Nor in the town records or death indexes. It seems unlikely that she moved away but we have not found a death record.

There is a story in the Boston Globe about a Sarah Hooper, elderly (62 years), paralytic, who was being transported to the state hospital at Tewksbury and got stuck in a hearse for 8 hours. But, our Sarah Hooper is in Whitman in 1917-1920.

    Census:
Sarah is enumerated in her father's home in 1900. There is a Benjamin F. Peterson next door who may be an older brother. She is listed as divorced and as having 3 children, all three of whom are still living. Sarah notes that she had three children, all of whom are still living in 1910.

    Notes:

Franklin is listed in the censuses as a farmer. In 1860, his farm is described in the non-population schedule.

In 1880, Franklin is listed as a widower.

Preliminary research on this line looks like it goes back to Plymouth in the early 1600s.

    Census:
In the 1900 Census, he is listed as Single. Is that correct, or should it really say Widowed? There is no mother present in the house. Both he and his parents are listed as being from Massachusetts.

Franklin married Almira Stetson on 10 Jan 1833 in Abington, Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States. Notes:

He was an ironworker, a gunsmith by trade. In early life he shipped on a whaling vessel and was wrecked on the Sandwich Islands, where his skill in ironwork saved his life. But he was guarded whenever a vessel was in port so that he could not escape for quite a length of time. He at length succeeded
in getting away and returning home. The time and place of his death are not known to his descendants.

    From Hooper Genealogy:
    2. Joseph (John, John, John, John, William), born at Bridgewater, Dec. 24, 1780; married at Duxbury, March 15, 181 1, Jerusha, daughter of Cornelius and Jerusha (Bryant) Ellis, born at Middleborough, April 19, 1781, died at Bridgewater,
    Jan. 20, 1870.
He was an ironworker, a gunsmith by trade. In early life he shipped on a whaling vessel and was wrecked on the Sandwich Islands, where his skill in ironwork saved his life. But he was guarded whenever a vessel was in port so that he could not escape for quite a length of time. He at length succeeded in getting away and returning home. The time and place of his death are not known to his descendants.

    Birth:
There is a note in the Bridgewater list of births for
"Jerusha, w. Joseph Hooper, Apr 19, 1783" that is cited from a private record group.

The Compiled Birth, Marriage, and Death transcription lists him as Job. I suspect that is a transcription error.

    Census:
There are three Joseph Hoopers and a John Hooper in Bridgewater in 1830. I believe that means dad, son, uncle, and grandson.

    Enumeration (Joseph Hooper 2nd): 0010001-0001001
    Enumeration (John Hooper): 00001001-000000001
    Enumeration (Joseph Hooper): 000010001-00001
    Enumeration (Joseph Hooper Jr): 000001-100001

So, I am not certain which of these 3 is Joseph, but one I believe is.

    Died:
Jerusha is listed as a head of household in the 1840 census, implying that she is widowed. By 1850, she is listed as a widow.

Joseph married Jerusha Ellis on 15 May 1811 in Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States. Jerusha (daughter of Cornelius Ellis and Jerusha Bryant) was born on 19 Apr 1781 in Middleboro, Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States; died on 20 Jan 1870 in Bridgewater, Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States; was buried in Bridgewater, Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States.
