"Taken from Confederate Soldiers of Louisiana, Library of Congress, 1976. Applied in 1915 for pension, widow applied in Nevada Co. AR after death, 16 Jan 1916. "Index to Ark. Confederate Pension Applications".

Looks like Dr. Wren filed for a Confederate Pension in Arkansas in 1915 and Georgia Wren applied as a widow in 1916.

    Birth:
Tooke History records his birth as 15 Feb 1846.

    Census:
In this census, it appears that there is an Augustus Wren, age 16, as well as a William A.D. Wren. Looks like W.A.D. Wren is him, but not sure who Augustus is. Perhaps, the confusion on the A.D. Wren later is really around this "Augustus".

    Military:
Dr. A.D. Wren applied for a pension on 19 Aug 1915 (along with John W. Hudson and John W. Gann). Veteran # 24686. Georgia Wren applied for a widow's pension on 18 Jan 1916. It seems unlikely that she received her pension, not being indigent.

    Residence:
Deed from James J Vickers Jr notes that A D Wren was a resident of Bienville when he purchased the land. This must have been the precursor for his move into Arkansas and the genesis of his old homeplace.

    Another Fire
    Prescott, October 28 -
The barn of Dr. A.D. Wren, a prominent citizen of Albany Township living eight or ten miles south of Prescott, was burned yesterday together with all his corn (500 bushels) and between 4,000 and 5,000 bundles of fodder.

The fire is believed to have been incendiary in origin. The Doctor and all his family were in Prescott except his son Willard who went to the neighboring Postoffice after dinner leaving no one at home. There was no insurance.

Dr. Wren lives near the edge of the cyclone district that had all its crop prospect destroyed last spring and he was very active at that time in efforts to relieve the sufferers. He is a foremost citizen, a prominent Democrat, and wields an influence in his neighborhood.

    Respectfully, E.R.A.

    Notes for Sarah Bridges

NOTE: The following two letters were written by Sarah Bridges Wren when she was in her nineties. The first was written in 1903 to Georgia Vickers Wren the wife of Sarah's son Dr. Alonzo George Wren. The envelope is missing but she writes... To Georgia Wren. Dear Daughter I send you this little history of my life which I have hastely writen,it is short and meager but I don't suppose that anyone would be interested in much that I could tell although I have seen a good deal of this world. with love I remain your mother Sarah Wren. Page 1. I was born in Green County GA the 17th of April 1813. went into Morgan Co where we lived until I was 6 years old, when I was carried to Putnam Co where I grew to womanhood. Was converted and joined the Methodist church in July 1828 was married the 7th Sept the same year to G. W. Wren of South Carolina. We settled in GA where we remained until 1850 when we removed to Louisiana in Jan 1851 where Mr. Wren died in Augt 29th 1884 and where 5 of our 8 children have died. I was Gloriously sanctified at the Rock Springs camp meeting in Putnam Co, GA in 1849 which bless the good Lord I still claim and hold on to____has always been very merciful and good to me and has given special answers to prayer. My blessed Lord has watched over me now for 90 years & 6 months and nere denied me one blessing that was best for me to have..he has given me good friends everywhere I go, and never permitted any serious harm to befall me. I feel that his abiding care has always been with me and in me to help and comfort me and now in my old age and infirmities he has not forsaken me, but gives me abiding witness of his Holy spirit to comfort and sustain me Glory to his name NOTE: The original letter is owned by Scott Dickson, Roswell, GA. The letter passed to him on the death of Norvelle Wren, Sept 1996,Prescott, AR. Scott was Norvelle's gt-nephew and Norvelle was gt-grandaughter of Sarah B. Wren.

The second letter....on envelope Mrs. Atticus Wren, Slaughter,Louisiana...post mark...Uvalde, Tex. Jun 24, 3pm, 1910. 1. Uvalde,Texas, Mrs. Agnes Wren dear grand daughter. I have been wanting to write to you for a long time but have put it off from time to time to feel well enough but I believe I get further from it instead of better and the truth is I am ashamed for anyone to see my writing because I can't read it myself after writing it. All the family think me better at least they talk that way, but I know my own feelings lest I and am not able to get around much have to be helped in and out at doors when I get out and when I..2..and when I ride which I seldom do I have tobe helped in and out of the carriage. all the family except Cecile Myers and myself are gone to plase on the river to give Mattie D. Orndorff and the children a outting while they are here. they have been here since the 9th of this month. Seth did not come with them but sent them with one of their neighbors who coming this way. you would be astonished to see how large Mattie D has grown and fine looking her children are. the oldest one is a little girl named Ruth Allis the boy's large named for this father....3...Seth Beauford Orndorff. Seth is still working and trading and going ahead. I don't know where he will end but he is a stiring man sure roling. Wren has his new house done we are in it comfortably fixed up with lots of ground chickens to eat but Mattie fell down directly we moved here from getting one foot hung in some wire which was both ends buried inthe ground and loose in the middle she was hurt so bad that she has not been able in 3 months but she is a little better now...4..she suffered a sore mouth for a good while..could not do anything to hardly keep up but all is a little better now though not well. Mattie D thinks she will stay only one month if that some of the family will go home with her to help her with the children. I am broke down and must close. I hope you will write soon and give me all the news. I am nearly blind but still scratch a little to my loved ones. I close with many kisses to Atticus and the children from your grandmother Sarah Wren. The original copy of this letter was in the possession of Inez Wren Dupris, daughter of Atticus Wren. It is now owned by Wren Dupris, Port Arthur, TX. Wren is gt-grandson of GLP Wren.

NOTE:This census Lists James Vickers as 60 with Nancy 49, Bettie 24, Sam 20 and M.J. 15. These names don't reflect other census records so doubt it is the same James Vickers.

NOTE: Although James J.Vickers, Sr. was living in Arkansas in 1880's he may be buried in LA. TOOKE HISTORY, p. 190 alludes to this fact. A Vickers cemetery is reported to have been west of Ringold, LA. The cemetery is now over grown & no attempt was made to search it. A Librarian at Ringold, LA said she had been to it at one time. A search of Hempstead Co., AR cemeteries was made with no results. His sister Eliza Vickers Snell is buried at cemetery in Emmet, AR,SE of HWY 67.

NOTE: “Florida Territory, Vol. XXV 1834-1839”, p76, James J. Vickers signed a petition to Congress by Stockholders of Tallahassee R. R. 16 Dec 1834 to construct a railroad from Tallahassee to St. Mark's.

NOTE:Sarah Lester Vickers Jordan, mother of James J. Vickers was divorced from husband John Jordan in 1846. The November Term of Court of Thomas Co GA James Vickers was trustee for this action in his wife's name. Records show each party was well to do in their right. In conformity with divorce agreement, each relinquished all rights to any property belonging to the other. Sarah Jordan asked for the following property: 5 mules, 1 wagon, 200 head of stock, negroes names Silas, Wright, Lewis, Tom, Austin, Dick, Little Tom, Annis, Hannah, Ahlory, Edy, Mary, Isabel and Davis; 2 horses and carriage, all furniture in the house in which they were living, 500 acres of land, lots inthe town of Thomasville, GA.
