    Notes:

Jane Huckaby St. John and Nancy Huckaby St. John are clearly not the same person. In the final settlement of William's estate, it calls out specifically that Nancy St. John is deceased and has unknown heirs in South Carolina and that Jane St. John is living, presumably in Noxubee County by that point. This would indicate that perhaps Nancy is the eldest (from the order in the estate documents, I would expect this), that she married, had at least one child in South Carolina, and then died very young, presumably by about 1825.

This family seems to have made its way from SC to AL by way of Georgia and has only recently arrived in AL in 1850.

Not found in 1840 AL or MS census. Could be in SC still.

    Census:
Census shows her as 48 years old and born in South Carolina.

The fact that she has 7 children ages 2-20 at age 48 seems like a bit of a late start. She may have more children and may have lost some along the way.

    Children:
    1. Wilborn St. John was born in 1830 in Georgia, United States; and died.
    2. Sarah St. John was born in 1834 in Georgia, United States; and died.
    3. James St. John was born in 1836 in Georgia, United States; and died.
    4. 1. Mary St. John was born in 1840 in Georgia, United States; and died.
    5. Elizabeth St. John was born in 1845 in Georgia, United States; and died.
    6. Martha St. John was born in 1846 in Georgia, United States; and died.
    7. George St. John was born in 1848 in Georgia, United States; and died.

    • Probate: 6 Jul 1857, Noxubee, Mississippi, United States

    Notes:

In William's estate, it lists his heirs. Generally, when the heirs are grandchildren, it lists the parent so that the shares match. But given there are 30 years between the oldest and youngest children, could the younger ones actually be grandchildren? Is there a possible reading of either William's or Elizabeth's estate that could hint at this?

It appears that there may be another son, Anderson, who died before William but left no surviving spouse or children.

    Birth:
It is interesting that William and Elizabeth are listed as born in NC rather than SC. Most of the Huckabys and allied families seem to have come from SC. Not sure about Robert, the presumed father of William.

    Census:
    Enumeration:
    Free White Male 10-14: 1
    Free White Male 15-19: 1
    Free White Male 60-69: 1
    Free White Female 15-19: 1
    Free White Female 50-59: 1
    Slaves Male < 10: 3
    Slaves Male 10-23: 1
    Slaves Female < 10: 1
    Slaves Female 10-23: 1

William is enumerated as William Huckaby Sen, just a few lines down from William Huckaby. There is also another William S Huckaby in the county (as wel as Wade Huckaby).

This indictes that he was born between 1770-1780, so the 1780 from the 1850 Census is reasonable. However, having children who are only 10-15 years old seems unlikely.

    Census:
Census lists him as 70 years old, born in NC, owning $400 of real estate.

But an age of 57 calls into question William B. Huckaby as a son since he is enumerated as 57 years old in that same census. If he is a son, I would have expected an age around perhaps 47 instead of 57.

    Residence:
When William purchases land in Noxubee County, the deed says he is from Pickens County, Alabama.

    Possessions:
Paid $1.25 tax on his land. Jackson Huckaby owns the NW 1/4 of this section, valued at $1280.

    Probate:
Petition to sell real estate to equitably divide it.

    Probate:
Final accounting of William Huckaby's estate
