John (Jack) A. Jones was the second husband of Martha A. Taylor Dickson. After the death of John H. Dickson, Martha remarried. The family story is that Jack Jones never allowed discussion of the first husband, the father of Martha's children. As such, they never got along with him and left home early.

According to the marriage records of Crawford Co, AR, a Jack Jones,age 21, married Caroline Baker, age 20, on 24 Apr 1878. This could have been the first marriage of this Jack Jones, but I think not. the ages do not correspond very well at all to those reported in the census. They would work, however, with the age of Zena Jones, the daughter of Jack Jones. Perhaps the ages on the marriage license are in error.

A second marriage record is found in Crawford Co. on 11 Jan 1890 for John A. Jones and Mrs. Sue Dickson. This appears to be the record for his marriage to the widow of John H. Dickson. However the name is in error. A notation in the margin of the record says that this record was mailed to Jack Jones in Rudy, Crawford Co., AR on 5 Sep 1896. The Jones family definitely lived in the small town of Rudy. Married granddad's grandmother after grandfather died. Never allowed discussion of first husband.

Lonnie Hunter, 81, of Alma died Saturday, January 22, 2005, in a local hospital. He was a retired furnace tender for Harding Glass Co. in Fort Smith, attended Full Gospel Church in Mulberry, and was a member of Van Buren Masonic Lodge for 50 years.

Funeral was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, a son, three sisters, two brothers, eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Alma Hunter of the home; two daughters, Millie, and Trillis; a son, Timothy Hunter of Fort Smith; two stepsons, Jerry Peters of Arkansas, and Greg Peters of Oklahoma; two sisters, Sue Tuck and Alivern McDonald both of Van Buren; and five grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the Highway to Heaven Church near Alma with interment to follow at Mount McCurry Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.

Mildred Mae Lampe, 77, of Fort Smith died April 11, 2009, in Fort Smith. She was a retired employee of Fort Smith Public School System and Desoto Furniture Company. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Women’s Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles No. 208. She was born July 18, 1935, in Arkansas to Oather James and Iva Velvia (Dickson) Burkhart, spending her childhood in the Rudy, Arkansas area before moving to to Seminole County in her early teens. She attended school at New Lima. Rita married Houston A. Grisham on August 19, 1950 (he died May 19, 2001.) She married Donald Lester on July 21, 2007 (he died March 23, 2013.) She was a homemaker all her life. She was a devoted member of First Christian Church, serving as Sunday School teacher, and on the Board of Elders. She was a member of several local organizations, including the Self Culture Club. She served in the Seminole chapter of Order of Eastern Star, rising to the position of Worthy Matron. When the Seminole chapter closed, she was granted perpetual membership in the Tecumseh chapter. With her first husband, Rita had five children. She was preceded in death by her four sons, Dennis, Larry, Terry and Randy Grisham. She was survived by one daughter, Karen Grisham Anson and husband Jerry Anson of Seminole; grandchildren, Heather Anson and Jeremy Long of Norman, Oklahoma, Jill and Eric Malone of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Ryan and Heather Anson of Moore, Oklahoma, Dennis Jr. and Brooke Grisham of Oklahoma City, Kelsey (Grisham) and Michael Williams of Ada, and Jade and Josh Hurst of Tulsa, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Carter and Greyson Malone, Jake and Tyler Anson, Nicholas Long, Trey and Seth Grisham.
