3201 Lists her age as 30 Wyche, Patience (I6783)

3202 Lists Priscilla as Mrs Priscilla Beals, which would indicate she is a widow. Knight is listed as Mr. Knight Brown, while other men are not listed that way. He may have had a previous marriage as well. Family: Knight Brown / Priscilla Beals (F3339)

3203 Lists Richard as Richard L. Dickson rather than Richard I Dickson Dickson, Richard Isaac (I2597)

3204 Litsed as 8/12 years old, but unclear when the enumeration took place. Deshazo, Dan (I10232)

3205 Lived in AR, around Polk county. Had a saw mill with Zenas TENNYSON. Bill died of blood poisoning. He got a splinter building a table. His wife took the splinter out with a needle. He then went on that day to butcher a hog. Perhaps he got infected then.

1870 Census lists him as Wm. J.B. Tennison and says he was born in Alabama.

Ref: [,1970,gm1]
Tennyson, John William Biggers (I5963)

3206 Lived in Conyers, Georgia

Never married.
Almand, John M. (I284)

3207 Lived in Harrison County, TX, about 9 miles from Marshall, in 1845. Successful raising cotton. Entered cotton brokerage business after the Civil War. Moved to New Orleans. Retired to Pass Christian, MS.

In 1840, there is a Henry B Ware in Leon County, Florida. The household has just a husband and wife (both 30-40 yrs) and 31 slaves. Seems unlikely that this is our family.

However, we ought to be able to find him in 1840 and 1880 census.
Ware, Henry B. (I6341)

3208 Lived in Washington, Georgia. Almand, Isiah (I264)

3209 Lived near Brownsville, TX

Served in the Civil War. Started as Captain, rose to Major, was to be promoted to Colonel. Killed near Jackson, MS. Died at the residence of General Wharton, Jackson, MS and was buried in his private cemetery.
Bridges, Henry Wharton (I1211)

3210 lived near the North Carolina border. Bailey, Peter Cock (I660)

3211 Living in the home of William H. Dustin and his wife Maggie J. Both Maggie and Thomas list both of their parents as foreign-born. Perhaps she might be a sister and he came to Tennessee with his sister's family. Dunn, Thomas (I9737)

3212 Living next door to Zenas & Nancy Deshazo Tennison

Listed as 18 years old. Seems like she is younger than this.

The 1880 census says her father was from Alabama and her mother was from Virginia. Nancy says the same thing.
Deshazo, Martha John (I2515)

3213 Living with John W. Tennyson Tennison, Nancy M. (I5927)

3214 Lizzie had been residing at the state hospital for 1 year, 4 months, 28 days at her death. Boyle, Elizabeth (I7018)

3215 Loaned money on a deed of trust, with $175 due 25 Dec 1843, and other considerations. If the debt was paid on time, the deed was void. Otherwise, M.T. Cooper and Eli Eaton could claim the land. Cooper, Micajah Thomas (I2071)

3216 Location is 1 house number off from where it had been for years. I think the census may have the wrong house number. Tennyson, John William (I5962)

3217 Logansport State Hospital was a state psychiatric hospital. Lula's contributing cause of death was listed as cerebral atrophy with behavioral reaction. She had been there for 3 years and 4 months at her death. Tennyson, Lula May (I5967)

3218 Long bio and family in findagrave Stroup, Dr. Walter Balfour (I10090)

3219 Look at the Noxubee County, Mississippi chancery & probate case files 674, 675, 676, 677. It's pretty clear that Alfred is son of William & Elizabeth Huckabee. But this will require a timeline of the probate papers to figure all of this out. All of these are on Family Search. Probate Minute index lays out timelines, mostly.

In Leake County, at the same time as Alfred is there, an Indian named Hacubee is selling land. This makes a little confusion. But there are no overlapping tracks that Hacubee buys or sells with Alfred Huckaby. Likewise, no DNA evidence for any Indian ancestors in this line exists.

Based on the 1880 Census, I would expect that perhaps Alfred married a second time to N. Her parents were from Scotland and Tennessee. His parents were from Virginia. Or Nancy and Mary were the same person. Seems more likely.

There is an Alfred Huckaby from Yell County who enlists in the 3rd US Cavalry, US Army in 1863. This could be the same person. Seems likely.

There is an A. Huckaby buried in Springdale, Washington County, died 1898 that could be the right person. However, there's no good reason for him to be there. When Alfred's 2nd wife died, there was no mention of him in her will. But it only pertained to property that she had owned beforehand.

However, the findagrave obituary for A.Huckaby indicated that he lived in Brentwood, Washington County, Arkansas. There are several Huckaby families in that area and no indication that Alfred ever lived there. Likewise, his wife died far too much earlier for the obituary to fit.

In the Yell County tax lists, I find A. Huckaby in 1885 (as expected) but not in 1887 or 1893. But he likely would have aged out of taxes as easily as he could have moved. However I do see I.A. Huckaby in Dardanelle Twp in the Dardanelle town special school district. None of these tax lists give any indication of age or any other identifying information for tax payers.

There is also a D.F. Huckaby family in Yell County that is prominent and seems likely to be connected.

1887 - Not found. Presumed dead already.

1889 Yell tax list is organized by section rather than township and school district. Need to know land before searching.

1885 tax list has only names and places, no taxes. A. Huckaby appears in Dardanelle Twp, along with Eidson (who his daughter married). many pages missing, including Prairie & Spring Creek Twps.

1893 - Garner - Prairie

1866 - Found - Alfred & F C
Huckaby, Alfred (I3706)

3220 Look into the possibility that Louisa's father could have been Berry Green and that they could have been in Roane County. There appears in a lot of Roane Co records a Berry Greene. Since she named a daughter Jane Berry, that name might have carried forward.

Berry is in 1810 in NC, 1850 in TN, maybe in 1830 in AL
Green, Louisa Anna (I3193)

3221 Looking at the 1850 census (which is very hard to read - familysearch.org is clearer than Ancestry), it appears that there are a number of Sartin neighbors near the home of the Oglesbys in 1850. In 1850, the home is lead by M.H. Oglesby and William is a 23 year old son in the home. Perhaps he is the head by 1857. Additionally, there are a number of harness makers and shoemakers in the close vicinity.

There is a Simeon Higgs in Lawrence County, TN, immediately north, who had a will probated in Feb 1845, but does not name Thomas Morton Higgs. It does name a James H. Higgs.

In Limestone, from the 1820s-1830s, at least, there is a James Higgs active. He might be sheriff.

Read all of Athens in 1850, Limestone pages 1-30.

In the 1870 Census of Hempstead Co., AR, the Higgs family is enumerated with the family of Dr. M.C. Boyce. In the obituary for Thomas' son Will, there is a mention that the remains will be sent to Boyce, TX. While this was not the case, there may be a Boyce connection. The local chapter of the NSDAR in Waxahatchie, TX is named for a Boyce.

Another interesting research tidbit: in "The Heritage of Madison Co.,AL", a Sallie E. Higgs Parks is discussed. She is married to William Elisha Parks. Her father was Robert Higgs, born in Florida on 8 Nov 1845, the son of Charles (b. 1805) and Sarah (b. 1806) Higgs. His mother was Louisa Berry, born 6 Sep 1843 to John (b. 1808) and Eliza(b. 1809) Berry. Robert is buried in McGee, MS, but according to this article, Charles Higgs and many of Sallie's other family members are buried in Athens, Limestone Co., AL.

Cannot find a reliable record in the US Census 1850 for Thomas Higgs
Cannot find a matching record in the Alabama 1855 or 1866 census. Many counties in northern AL are missing.
Limestone County - checked all old records in the Limestone County Archives - Dec. 2015 - Deeds, wills, probate, everything available. No Sartains listed at all except the Higgs / Sartain marriage record.
Morgan County, Alabama - Checked old records - Commissioner's Court, deeds, wills, estates, probate records, old land records, orphans court records, newspaper histories of the county from John Knox - No Sartains or Higgs at all.

What about Alabama tax lists? Poll & property taxes would at least say who was there during the intra-census years. These appear to be only available via the probate court and are not filmed or published that I can find, if they actually exist at all.

Some of the other Higgs families around Limestone county came out of Jefferson and Knox counties in Tennessee. Likewise, there were Higgs families in east Tennessee. It seems somewhat possible that Mary and Thomas married during the migration south and then headed west to Arkansas. There are some other Higgs families in southern Arkansas that they may connect with.
Higgs, Thomas Morton (I3539)

3222 Looks like census may say dress contractor, but might be something else. Looks to me like Jere Will met her at work. Clowdis, Grace (I1733)

3223 Looks like Rufus is a laborer on the fam where Elizabeth Robinson lives, perhaps as a single woman with her sister and brother. Bailey, Rufus Alexander (I674)

3224 Looney Riley, a member of the Cherokee nation, challenged Uriah Allison's right to the land purchased in 1820, claiming that it was his under treaties of 1815 and 1817. Ultimately, Riley sued and failed to win in county court. Uriah appealed to the Chancery court, bringing the treasurer of East Tennessee in as a defendant since he was trying to eject Uriah. Uriah died before the case was settled, so it was closed. Allison, Col. Uriah (I193)

3225 Lord Granville was granted 1/8 of the colony (North & South Carolina) by George II in 1744. Out of this, Granville made leases to planters. Peter Vincent has paid 3 shillings proclamation money, land on both sides of Cedar Creek, 400 acres. Woods, timber, hunting and fishing rights and mining are granted. However, the Crown reserves 1/4 of all gold and silver mined and Lord Granville reserves 1/2 of the remaining 3/4 of all gold and silver mined. Annual rent shall be 3 shillings sterling or 4 shillings proclamation money per 100 acres. Due each year at the Feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Feast of St. Michael (half at each). Peter will clear and cultivate at least 3 acres of every 100 acres. Vincent, Peter (I6287)

3226 Lorenzo Dow Williams was killed during the Civil War near Franklin,TN. He was wounded on November 30, 1864 and died December 1. Some sources report his death as 1863.

However, I have not yet found a military service record. There is an Lorenzo Dow Williams in the Illinois Colored troops (not him) and one in the 24th Mississippi Inf. That one is also not him, since he was from Greene County, MS and was discharged in January 1862 from Fernandina, FL with injuries.

3238 M.T. is listed with Lavina, his second wife, and a black servant, Tom Jordan. He is listed as having $3000 worth of real property and $200 worth of personal property. He is listed as born in N.C. and she is listed as born in TN.

He also appears in the Agricultural schedule of the census. In this case, he is listed as M.T. Cooper. It appears that this is not a recopied version of the census, while the population schedule is.
Cooper, Micajah Thomas (I2071)
