Residences: Hope, AR (1871), Indian Territories (1906), Redland until her death. Martha Brock tells me that in the Civil War the Freeman's or Almand family put corn in the walls of their home so the soldiers would not steal their food. A Yankee soldier came into the yard when Druscilla was sweeping the yard and asked for food. When she told him she didn't have any he hit her with his rifle knocking her to the ground.

Druscilla's Funeral Notice: Funeral Services were held for Mrs. D. Freeman, who died Sunday at Redland, were held Monday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock at the Redland cemetery with Rev. E.W. Wright and Rev.J.L. Cooke officiating. The song service was held by the Redland singing class, directed by A.W. Lambert.

CALLED: sometimes seen as Purmelia B. DOSSEY, sometimes Permelia DORSEY

Permelia moved to Antlers in 1887 after the death of her husband,Peter Almand. She lived her last years with her son, Joseph Henry Almand and his family.

Liz Layson says that Daniel Dossey is the father of Permelia. This is an area to be investigated.

In the 1830 census of Jasper Co., GA, there is a Daniel Dorsey listed with one female age 10-15 in the house. Permelia would have been 14.There is a John Dossey who married Nancy L. Smith in Greene Co., GA on Jan 15 or 25, 1815. She died in Greene Co. on Sept 27, 1838 at the age of 42 years, 1 month, and 12 days, which would have put her birth date as August 15, 1796. She is buried in Greene Co, near Credville (rd. S925) 1/2 mile north of Liberty Church in the woods near Vick's Rd. There is a William J. Dofsee on the 1850 Census for Cobb Co., GA as being 28 years old. His family was living about 8 dwellings away from Purmelia and her family. If we assume that his name was misspelled or whatever, he could have been a brother or a cousin to Purmelia.

    DAR-PATRIOT:

    Newton1

DEATH: Newton1 reports death as 29 Jun 1846. Other death dates for him include 2 May 1845, and 14 Feb 1846. Robert Hale reports 28 Feb 1846.

I have seen him listed as Thomas Simeon Almand, based on the notion that his father was Thomas Simeon, but his father had no middle name due to laws in place at that time. See father's notes.

    From Robert Hale:

Thomas is sometimes referred to as Thomas B. Almand though no record has been seen with the B used or is it know for sure what the B stands for. Many of their children and grandchildren have the name Butler in their name. His father is referred to as Thomas A. Almand with no account as to what the A stands for.

There has been no marriage record found for Thomas and Nancy but as they were supposed to be in Elbert County Georgia at the time, which was before they stated keeping marriage records, it is thought that is where they married about 1800. Nancy's parents were there and later were in Madison County Georgia when it was cut out of Elbert Co.

    End Robert Hale

Notes from Shirley Barham on findagrave.com
PLEASE NOTICE - There is no INITIAL on this tombstone for Thomas Almand and NO INITIALS found on any documents that have been found regarding Thomas Almand or his father Thomas Almand, Sr.

The date for death of Thomas Almand that is in his son - Peter B. Almand's Bible is different than what is on his tombstone. The Bible record states that Thomas Almand, father of Peter B. died June 29, 1846.

Thomas Almand (Jr) is the son of Thomas Almand (Sr.) born ca. 1762 and Ann Ussery. They were married in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. No marriage record has been found. Thomas Almand (Sr) and Annice (Ann) Ussery Almand had at least four sons: Thomas, Jr., Ussery, James and John.

Thomas Almand (Jr.) married Nancy David ca. 1800 probably in Elbert County, Georgia. No marriage record has been found.
